Hey there, could you explain the big to-do about Lil B? I am confused because everyone loves him and I guess I just don’t get it; sometimes he seems really positive and cool and other times he talks about women just like any other misogynistic musical artist? - Anon
He says good things on twitter and in some of his songs and is genuinely more vulnerable and supportive of people’s differences than any other young artist I’ve seen in a long time. He also writes super misogynistic lyrics. For me, the reason I’m still reblogging tweets from him is the same reason I have a hard time not posting Azealia Banks(transmisogynist) or Divine(racist, ableist); as members of many, often intersecting, marginalized groups we have so few public figures and so little media that we can relate to, so I often find myself holding on longer than I normally would when someone fucks up. Lil B(misogynist) made me feel a certain way when he cried on camera and told the world that he loves us, the way I felt when Rosanne(transmisogynist) talked about being fat and proud, when Obama(child murderer and warmonger) mentioned gays in his 2008 acceptance speech, when RuPaul(racist apologist, transmisogynist) was the first brown boy I ever saw in a dress. It’s this bending for scraps of respect that keeps me sane sometimes, but I know I will inevitably have to let them go when they give me more pain than love.
